Mission

The Texas Laryngectomee Association  is dedicated to the total rehabilitation of the laryngectomee through training of the laryngectomee, spouses, families, speech professionals and students of speech pathology.

History

The Texas Laryngectomee Association (TLA) was formed in 1989 under the umbrella of the Texas Division of the  American Cancer Society (ACS).  Representatives from the Texas state lost chord clubs met to create the association and elected officers and wrote and approved  a constitution.  With the initial support of the ACS, the TLA planned and presented 30 annual conferences for the education and rehabilitation of laryngectomees, their families, and speech pathologists (professional and graduate students).  In 2002, the ACS withdrew its financial and office support, and allowed the TLA to continue independently as a non-profit organization.  With the assistance of many volunteers, our renowned clinical staff, Texas clubs, and generous vendor support, the TLA continues to thrive. The TLA is a member area club of the IAL.
